John and Diane MacPherson, left the B&B business to take a chance on starting a new restaurant in Sperryville, VA. In 2018, their fledging eatery was given the name, 3 Blacksmiths, to honor the three working smiths of Sperryville dating back to the nineteenth century. With just a 20-seat dining room and open kitchen, 3 Blacksmiths was designed for intimacy and elegance. In 2018, USA Today ranked the MacPherson restaurant #2 – Best New Restaurants in America. In 2019, the Washington Post ranked 3 Blacksmiths #4 -- Top 10 New Restaurants of in the Washington, DC area.
